The Florida Attorney General’s Office is investigating a Florida seller of smokeless electronic cigarettes following approximately 80 consumer complaints that this company made unauthorized charges to credit cards. Additionally, this company failed to deliver products and did not credit customers for returned merchandise, according to state documents.
Expert Advice Source’s investigation showed that many sellers of e-cigarettes are engaged in deceptive billing practices. For instance, some offered a free or low-cost “trial” of electronic cigarette kits but failed to mention that a monthly recurring fee would be automatically charged to the unsuspecting customer’s credit card.
During the same investigation, Expert Advice Source determined that not all sellers were engaged in such practices. One seller is an honest and reputable dealer that does not engage in such practices. Evolve Electronic Cigarettes simply offered products at what appear to be very competitive, one-time purchase prices. In fact, EvolveCigs also offered free shipping thus avoiding another typical scam involving high shipping charges.
